-from a story shared by YH's middle school classmate (who uploaded a yearbook picture as a proof) @ DC JYH:

"I remember a few things. In 2nd year, during our annual physical education exam, we had to run 7 laps.

The rule was set so that when no.1 runs one more lap fast enough to pass the last runner, the last runner gets a fail.

Yong Hwa was no.1 so when he ran almost one more lap than the last runner, I thought he would catch up.

But without passing, he ran leisurely right behind the last runner so that he wouldn't fail, smiling and cheering him up.

I remember how because of him, the kids who were following couldn't pass by and the last runner finished the laps."

Such a warm, warm person even back then.

  2. Some days ago I wrote something about Yonghwa's beautiful mind. A fan replied to me on twitter that she agrees with what I said but thinks Yonghwa has a beautiful heart too. I said his beautiful heart deserves another post. This post of yours contains the best words about his beautiful heart, from his school friend, which means so much more than a fan's observation or second hand information of other fans' "biased" stories.

Thank you so much for translating. But you makes me like him more, again ... That's kind of dangerous. I may like him too much ... But it's totally human to adore such a person?

Am thinking if I witnessed such heart warming events during my school days. The answer is NO. Totally envy Yonghwa's schoolmate who had him in his middle school life. Wonder if all fans around watched the WGM episode when his school friends appeared and talked about him. (You know many fans avoided that show.) the "girl" friend even posted on DC how happy and proud she is to have yonghwa as her friend. But guess enough fans watched the SBS dalgona show. How much he's loved by friends and family!

The boy who likes to joke around but has this beautiful heart, since he was small. I still see this side of him now! So so so proud to be a fan of Yonghwa's.

    1. Well, this story really is great, but nonetheless I love love love your poetic words about Yonghwa. So please write a separate post in the future? T.T

I'm really glad I translated this. Now I can share this overwhelming affection for him with many more fans, instead of welling it up inside! :) Makes it feel a little less guilty.

I absolutely loved that WGM episode/dalgona show--it was just obvious he was a loving and lovable kid growing up. (This is a stereotype, but can't imagine guys from Kyungsang province saying "I love you" to another guy on TV!)

And it's not like he's changed after becoming a star, like you said. We see it in the kind attitude he shows toward his fans. Did you hear about the fans who saw him at Maroon 5's concert last night? Some of them were close fans, and he said hi to them, called them by the friendly term "nuna!" :) That gave me such a big smile.

    2. I heard a fan from the Yonguge café saw him at the concert and he greeted her, with them looking at each other in the eyes. The Chinese fan who briefly told this “encounter” didn’t say he actually called her “noona”. Guess there was more than one fan reporting the happy encounter. Like you said, these fan reports always bring me smiles.

You are so kind always saying good things about my blog posts. Thank you! Sometimes I fear that people would think there’s this Yonghwa fan who is too obsessed/protective defending and praising her star. But I just can’t keep my mouth shut for I think he’s not praised enough, even bashed unfairly often. It’s okay if “fans” say he’s not good looking enough or even ugly (?!), using words like “greedy” or “selfish” describing him as a person is totally unacceptable to me. I wonder if they never came across comments by his bandmates/co-workers/other artists/fans, about his gracious personality. That’s why I think I shouldn’t shy away from telling things I hear from other fans or describe what I feel about what he says or does in public. I don’t mean I have the ability to influence others; I just can’t stand if people don’t have enough information, if you see what I mean. Still there’s always the chance that people don’t value the qualities I see in Yonghwa, but I feel great to talk to fans who feel the same about him.

  3. Thank you so much for your translation. Reading this makes me much more touched and admire Yonghwa more. He is just a kind of kid but he is warm and kind-hearted. His manner is good not only for his bandmates who are as his younger brothers but also to the others. That's why I - a big fan noona - love him and adore him forever and tha's why he has a lot of fan all over the world who loves CNBLUE's music in general , and Young Hwa particularly.

    1. Yes yes yes. Thanks for reading :) What I really love about him is that these actions come from his heart. Sometimes I wonder how can people not be his fan, after getting to know him...too biased? ^^;;

  4. Thank you so much for your translation, heich. This reminds me about the first impression I had when I knew him, a guy with sincerity. He was caught me because of his sincere heart and mind. and this is the reason why I love to become his big fan ^^

  5. there are a lot of other singers out there better and more talented than Yonghwa but i am not a fan of them. talent/skill alone won't make me a fan. i'm looking for talent plus good character.

it was Yonghwa's singing and guitar skill that caught my interest but i became a fan more because of his personality. his being a good leader, a caring hyung to his members, his humility and hardwork to improve himself and his craft, his courage to dream big and aspire more, his maturity in facing problems and challenges, his gratitude to those who helped him including his fans, even his childlikeness and playfulness, and so much more.

others might say i'm bias, he is not as great or good as i believed him to be, the above enumeration are exaggeration. they may say that, however, from the above story shared by his schoolmate i don't think anyone can say or accuse him of indifference, enough reason for me to look up to him.

sorry for my long comment and thank you very much for the trans. :)

    1. To be honest, I didn't care for artists' personalities much until I got to know YH. I'd just buy CDs and listen to them...I'm not sure why I decided to delve in this deep. But sure glad I did. He makes me rethink my own attitude toward life and those around me...

Some people might accuse us of being biased, but it's not like we idolize him as god or make up false stories to admire him. Like you said, I think anyone that reads this story can just appreciate and respect the way he's lived/living his life.

I say this to klaritia many times: please don't ever apologize for long comments. I love them! Thank you so much for taking time to share your thoughts. :)

  6. I like Klarita often think that I like YongHwa "too much". But he keeps giving me reasons for to love him! I for one never thought of him as childish at all. Rather he is someone who adjusts himself for the person or people he is with. He is more concerned for the comfort of others than himself. And then he does what he has to with a laugh and a smile. He is thoughtful, mature, caring and more importantly a good person. He's got a fan for life in me!

    1. I think when fans say that it's more about his playful personality. I love that he has a great sense of humor, while also keeping things serious when necessary. I think he strikes a pretty good balance of different characters to suit each occasion. I think it all works out because, like you said, he does it with a caring heart toward others.

  7. This heart-warming scene part that being revealed by Yonghwa's close-friend in high school is probably one of the most touching story (for me) about his kindness to others. To be honest, I have never been this madly and crazy about an artist (a musician to be specific), like what you said, I also just bought the CD, listen to it several times, without even digging details of the member or the stories that the artist has been through. At first, I was caught by his humorous personality, then I found out that he's in the band with great talents in singing and playing guitars. As time goes by, it's not only his talents, his outer appearance, and his variety skills that makes me adore and loving him more. His humble-profile, his caring for others, his braveness to dream big, and his hard-work to reach what he's dreaming of to make it into reality. I have never found this kind of person could exists and I have never might get an ending if I should write an essay about him ^^v. I know I may sound exaggerated (like what Klaritia has felt about her comments and posts about Yonghwa, well her words are always making me goosebumps and even feeling so proud how he's been loving and caring for others, and now it's time for us to return his sincere-love, thanks to your posts and comments, Klaritia! :) Thanks to you also heich, for this translation story. This heart-warming scene can even make me feel blessed that I can know such a person like Yonghwa :)

  8. And to think there are people out there who think so wrong of such a great person Y.Y

  9. I just love Yonghwa..he is a good talented man. Watching many kind of fancams and shows of him made me even realized that this man is such a sweet heart, bright man with a big dream that know how to work hard and have fun, always try to give the best in every performance. WGM and Dalgona showed how he remain humble and warm when meeting all of his old friends. Thank you so much for sharing this heart warming story :)

  10. Thank you for sharing the above, it is very heart warming. I love it that again and again, YH's beautiful character has been shared by his friends and people on the road (who might not be a fan). He has shown through his actions that he can be a good leader, leading his band mates, guiding them to develop their skills, and at the same time, a caring older brother who takes care of his younger brothers, giving them encouragement and help when they need it. He is just such a beautiful person and it's hard not to love this boy!
